360 Feedback Categories: Leadership

In a previous article, we talked about which questions you should ask when conducting 360 Feedback. One of the categories we covered was leadership.

Leadership is one of those qualities you will always hear people talk about. People are writing blog posts about it, doing workshops etc.. There are even whole books dedicated to this one character trait – leadership.

In this article, we will discuss the importance of leadership and why it is crucial in a business setting.
You will surely see this category in every single 360 Feedback questionnaire you will ever encounter.

Why is that so?

The importance of leadership in 360 Feedback

360 Feedback always tests for leadership. The reason is very simple. It has been proven time and again that leadership is one of the most desireable traits in a workplace.

A good leader raises the morale of the whole department. If you are able to inspire your coworkers to match your effort, and to try their very best to achieve the next goal in front of you, you are a great leader and a great person to be around. Companies will gladly pay more, to have an employee who can lead their team into new victories.

By becoming a great leader, you will become irreplacable in your work department.

But, not all of us were born as confident and charismatic leaders. So a question that professionals always have is:

How can I become a great leader?

Although there are many ways to become a great leader and ace your next 360 Feedback, we will currently focus on two traits that make a great leader.

Communication skills

Those are also a common category for 360 Feedback, and we could write a whole other article about proper communication.
However, they are a crucial part of being a team leader.
You should never, in any way, insult or belittle any of your coworkers.

You do not want to focus on the negatives too much. As a leader, it is your job to inspire your coworkers and help them grow and develop themselves.
Motivate them to keep learning and putting in their best effort. An old quote that best embodies this says:

„If you want people to build you a ship, don’t give them instructions and tell them what to do. Rather, teach them to crave the sea.“

Being an example

You can be a very good talker, but at the end of the day, if you are not putting in any work, nobody will follow you.
A leader has to lead by example and show his employees/coworkers how it is done.
You have to show up motivated and put in as much effort as you can, and not let anything dicourage you.

If you do that, your 360 Feedback leadership score will wastly improve.
