We all like to think that we are a great boss, but is that really true?
As all of you probably know, the boss position comes with a great deal of responsibility. It is a lot harder and more stressful than a lot of employees think.
In our daily struggles of work and private life, it is sometimes easy to forget who you owe the greatest amount of responsibility – your employees.
It is up to you to motivate the employees, keep them happy and satisfied, and keep them working hard. The burden of their performance lies on your back.
So how do you do it? How do you become a great boss? The greatest boss you could possibly be?
We will give you a few tips on doing just that.
Traits of a great boss:
Setting expectations
Nobody likes to work aimlessly, and everybody likes the feeling of achievement. An easy way to ensure that your employees know exactly what you want and expect from them is to explicitly tell them. Don’t be unnecessarily strict, but give them a clear image of where you want to go, and set clear goals and expectations for them.
They will thank you for it.
No micromanagement
You see, setting expectations and goals is not the same as micromanagement. Of course you know the best, that is why you are the boss, but you have to let the employees do their job.
Tell them what you expect of them, and then allow them to deliver.
Give praise
Everybody likes to know that they did a good job and everybody likes validation. So give it to them when they deserve it. It is always a good thing to thank and congradulate an employee for doing a great job. It is good to do it both privately and in front of other employees.
Remember, you are all in this together. You represent the role of a leader to your employees. So it is important that you truly act like a leader, and you will be a great boss.
